US Government Uses Social Media To Respond To Bolsonaro’s Arrest

The Office of Western Hemisphere Affairs publicly criticized the Supreme Court of Brazil's Decision, raising concerns about the state of democracy in the Country.

The US government under Donald Trump once again disregarded Brazil’s sovereignty by blatantly interfering in its internal affairs. This interference, following Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes’s order for former President Jair Bolsonaro’s house arrest, was a clear violation of Brazil’s sovereignty.

On social media, the Office of Western Hemisphere Affairs, a branch of the US State Department, used aggressive and threatening language, creating a tense, and concerning diplomatic situation.

“Let Bolsonaro Speak! The United States condemns Moraes’s order imposing house arrest on Bolsonaro and will hold accountable all those who collaborate with or facilitate sanctioned conduct,” stated the Office affiliated with the Trump administration.

On Tuesday (5), the US government’s profile, a platform used to disseminate official government statements and shape public opinion, commented again on the case. This platform, with its large following and influence, plays a significant role in shaping public perception and opinion on important issues.

“The Minister’s unbridled Orwellian impulses [referring to the English author George Orwell, who wrote the book 1984, which depicts a totalitarian dictatorship] are dragging his Court and his country into the uncharted territory of a judicial dictatorship,” said the institution’s deputy secretary.
