Located on the Liceu de Artes e Ofícios de São Paulo building, the Pinacoteca was open in 1905 and is the oldest art museum in the city of São Paulo. Its art collection has approximately 1900 artistic, bibliographic and archival items.

The art gallery displays works such as ‘São Paulo’ by Tarsila do Amaral and ‘Mestizo’ by Candido Portinari. In recent years, the museum received important exhibitions, such as Ron Mueck, seen by 402 thousand people.

Listed as a historic site, the Parque da Luz and the museum’s garden displays about 50 sculptures of contemporary artists, such as Victor Brecheret Lasar Segall and Amílcar de Castro.

In 2004, the museum gained another building, which was renovated and renamed Pinacoteca Station. The Pinacoteca Station contains the Memorial da Resistência de São Paulo (São Paulo Resistance Memorial), the Centro de Documentação (Documentation Center), the Walter Wey Library, the Nemirovsky Collection, important modern art collection of Brazil, and Guita and José Mindlin Illustration Cabinet.
