Brazilian actor Wagner Moura won the award for best actor in a drama film at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards, during the ceremony held on Sunday (11), in a victory that consolidated a historic night for Brazilian cinema. He was recognized for his performance in O Agente Secreto , a film directed by Kléber Mendonça Filho. This is the second consecutive edition in which Brazil has won the Golden Globe. Last year, Fernanda Torres left the awards ceremony with the trophy for best actress in a drama film. Now, Wagner Moura has also won the award for best actor in a drama film.
Wagner Moura gave an emotional speech, in which he highlighted the film’s significance and thanked the director. “ It’s a film about memory, the lack of it, and generational trauma. I think that if trauma can be passed down through generations, values can too. This award goes to those who are following their values in difficult times .” He then spoke directly to the Brazilian audience in Portuguese: “ And to everyone in Brazil watching this now, long live Brazil and Brazilian culture .” The actor’s award marked the second victory for *The Secret Agent* at the same Golden Globe Awards. Earlier, the film had already been announced as the winner in the Best Foreign Language Film category. It was the first time in 27 years that a Brazilian production won this category, repeating the historic feat of *Central Station* .
With this, Brazil achieved an unprecedented milestone: never before had the country won two awards in the same edition of the Golden Globes. The category was presented by actress Minnie Driver, who surprised everyone by announcing the result with a word in Portuguese, saying “Parabéns” (Congratulations) before revealing the name of the winning film in English.
Upon taking the stage to receive the award for best foreign language film, director Kléber Mendonça Filho made a point of greeting the Brazilian audience. “ Hello, Brazil, ” he said, before thanking the cast and highlighting his partnership with Wagner Moura. “ The best things happen when you have a great actor and a great friend ,” the filmmaker stated. Kléber Mendonça Filho also dedicated the award to the new generations of filmmakers. “ I dedicate this film to young filmmakers. This is a very important moment in history for making films, here in the United States and in Brazil. We will continue making films ,” he declared. In addition to the two wins, *The Secret Agent* was also nominated in the best dramatic film category, reinforcing the international reach of the production and the leading role of Brazilian cinema in the main awards ceremony of the audiovisual industry.
