The General Director of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Brazilian José Graziano da Silva (photo) was elected one of the most influential Latin Americans in the world by América Economia magazine. In the “Latin American Global 2016” ranking, recently published by the journal, the head of the UN agency was recognized for his work against hunger and for promoting South-South cooperation.
Graziano is praised by America Economics for his involvement in the fight against hunger. “The recognition of people is the recognition of the ideas and causes for which they dedicate life. In this case, it is a recognition of rural development in the fight against hunger in Latin America and around the world,” was said about the nomination.
The magazine’s ranking also highlights Graziano’s work to expand the exchange of technical solutions among countries in the Southern Hemisphere, with a view to more sustainable development models.
Other influential Latin Americans
The list also recognizes the leadership of Pope Francis. Other Latin Americans selected for the ranking are the president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Rafael Reif, and the director general of the World Trade Organization (WTO), also the Brazilian Roberto Azevêdo.
