Brazil’s recognition as country free of FMD with vaccination will expand the markets that accept Brazilian meat, Agriculture Minister Blairo Maggi (photo) said this last April 5th.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) will officially award the status in May. “The great recognition we received paves the way to new markets in which we do not have a presence yet,” said the minister. The Correios, Brazil’s postal service, launched a commemorative stamp today to mark the occasion.

The recognition is chiefly the result of a partnership started over 50 years ago between the Brazil’s veterinary health inspection service and the private sector, which today counts with more than 2.7 million farmers. In addition to highlighting the possibilities for expanding markets, Maggi also praised the importance of all vaccination professionals involved in fighting disease.
